The peaceful NCR land rally started off with a miring ceremony at 8am this morning.

It was performed by ‘lemambang’ Jayan Lang. The half-hour ceremony included the sacrificing of a white chicken.

The event attracted a huge crowd that filled the entire area in front of the Clock Tower.

Participants wore pua kumbu motif clothes, traditional costumes, Sarawak Dayak Association (Pedas) t-shirts and slogan t-shirts to the rally.

They waited patiently while waiting for the speakers to arrive. Some held posters and banners, some chanted ‘hidup Dayak’.

Former Majlis Adat Istiadat deputy president Nicholas Bawin gave a quick welcoming address to all who were present.

The police were also present to help maintain the safety.

The rally is expected to last for five hours until 2pm.
